The object of the competition is to have the largest kite surface area and fly for 60 seconds or longer.
1. Any Washington County School District elementary school wishing to participate needs to register by
faxing their completed registration form to the Foundation for Students of Washington County - Attn:
Diane Tyler at (435) 652-4720.
2. The first 10 schools that register will be selected to participate in the largest kite competition
on April 17, 2010. After the teams compete, each team will be eligible to receive $100 for their school
to offset the cost of materials.
3. Student(s) needs to have their kite and flying team assembled at the designated field 20 minutes
before the event.
4. The kite must be at least 4 feet by 6 feet or larger.
5. The winning kite will have the largest kite surface area, fly for 60 seconds or longer and be
assisted by any number of students from the sponsoring school, having no more than one adult helping
per three students.
6. Student(s) must fly the kite themselves, however, an adult may coach or supervise the student(s).
Adults may not touch the kite or kite string while launching or flying the kite.
7. Each team will only have five attempts to keep the kite in the air.
8. First, Second and Third place winners will receive rewards for their respective schools.
First place - $850
Second place - $600
Third place - $300
9. In the instance the First, Second or Third place spots do not have a qualified kite that meets the
above criteria, the decision of placement will be left to the judges. If the judges cannot make a
unanimous decision, the head judge will have the final word.
10. Prizes will only be awarded to the school teams that enter the competition. However, we welcome any
and all participants young and old to create a gigantic masterpiece they wish to soar through the skies.
